Offshore Energy Exhibition spotlights renewables vital role in shaping an independent European energy market

From November 28th to 29th, Amsterdam was host to the Offshore Energy Exhibition and Conference, featuring an informative session by the Dutch Marine Energy Centre (DMEC) on Accelerating Offshore Renewable Energy Solutions. This event delved into the latest developments in offshore renewable energy sources and market opportunities.

During the session, DMEC announced the BLUE-X project as the Blue Energy Offshore Installation Accelerator by means of satellite data. SeaQurrent activities featured as example case for the development of such services. Subsequently SeaQurrent spotlighted its cutting-edge TidalKite technology, a significant addition to the energy mix with promising contributions to the marine energy sector. Maarten Berkhout’s presentation emphasised TidalKite’s pivotal role in advancing renewable energy goals. Engineered for efficient harnessing of tidal currents, TidalKite represents a groundbreaking leap in the exploration of renewable energy sources. Tidal energy provides for continuous renewable energy, a crucial complement to wind and solar towards secure renewable energy for EU citizens.

Amid the European Union’s call for a renewable resource-based power sector to ensure an affordable and reliable EU energy supply and a fully integrated, interconnected, and digitalized EU energy market, the scaling up of traditional renewable energy in Europe encounters challenges. This primarily has to do with limitations in available land area, grid congestion challenges and local communities’ reluctance to host wind or solar parks. Here, the innovative underwater kite can play a significant role. The presentation underscores how TidalKite aligns with the Green Deal objectives, contributing to the EU’s climate and security of energy supply  ambitions for 2030 and 2050. By delivering clean, affordable, and secure energy, SeaQurrent’s technology plays a crucial role in advancing the goals of the EU defined BLUE-X project.
